Thank you to my friend Wilfrid for the use of his skilled piano-y hands in the piano pic

Ooh, that music there is from my senior band's 4-page piece, Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev, keeping in mind that the original is 12 minutes long, and our version is condensed



Hey Maryam, excellent photos again, I love the color of the first image.

My daughter Sarah plays the violin, but thinks it's boring, even though she is very good. She's been taking private lessons from one of the symphony members in our city. But the electric guitar is also hers; she saved her money and bought it herself, and for that I think she kicks major ass!
Sorry. I forgot that this is a family site and that you're young and impressionable....

When aliens invade

 
This was taken at my sister's college graduation, they had a wicked UFO-ish chandalier (is that how you spell that?) and I just cranked up the contrast.. when that eerie blueish glow appeared.. maybe the proffessors were E.Ts in disguise?! ...... E.T phone hooooome!

Abandoned Light House

That's us in the mirror. I'm the blue dot (camera covering face)

Sounds like something from a horror movie, right?

Well, at our visit to the Toronto Marina in the summer, me and my little brothers and sisters went adventuring to this light house they were telling me about, and we finally found it.
There were no ladders or stairs to get up, so I had to boost the kids up.
One of them was too scared to go up though, so I stayed down with her.

So I gave my camera (with dying batteries by the way) to the oldest, and she quickly snapped a shot of what the inside of the deck looked like. But as she was climbing to the roof, the damn batteries died, so I never got to see what the view from the top looked like

The shot of one of the boys by the huge sign I took while we were adventuring through this dense bush, I took that pic of him there and thought it looked kinda anarchic

Reflections

 
 
The first picture is pretty.. yet horrible at the same time, isn't it? Residential housing is taking over the few havens we have left. Not something we can stop I guess, but it was nice being able to see some of the nature here in Canada, after all the stories of forests and jungles I hear from my parents about back home (Trinidad and Tobago). So try imagining that picture without the houses.

The second picture I took in a Toronto Marina, will upload other pictures later.

These two are actually some pics I never got to uploading.. I was expecting to be shooting pretty snow landscapes since this IS Canada and it IS January.. alas, global warming strikes again, we haven't had a decent snowfall yet. Wow, those are some words I never thought i'd say o_O

We don't use the blue lights at our house, but I LIKE the blue lights. Especially outside at night, because they seem to glow in another dimension or something and freak me out. Tue 5-Dec-2006 04:13

Hey, Maryam, my macros were taken with the same old cheap camera I have been abusing for a few years now: a Nikon Coolpix2000, a little 2-meg workhorse that has never let me down. The Second Day of Eid :D - Jami Mosque (in Toronto)

I actually visited this mosque weeks ago, but I spent the entire day there with my family and younger siblings, so I took it upon myself to get some photos



Today I shall post a section from the Qu'ran that tells the story of Maryam (or in English, Mary) *from which I was named * from Surah (or chapter) 19 - "Maryam"


[Maryam 19:16] And remember Maryam in the Book; when she went away from her family to a place towards east.

[Maryam 19:17] So there she screened herself from them; We therefore sent Our Spirit towards her - he appeared before her in the form of a healthy man. (Angel Jibreel [or Gabriel] – peace be upon him.)
[Maryam 19:18] She said, "I seek the refuge of the Most Gracious from you - if you fear God."

[Maryam 19:19] He said, "I am indeed one sent by your Lord; so that I may give you a chaste son."

[Maryam 19:20] She said, "How can I bear a son? No man has ever touched me, nor am I of poor conduct!"

[Maryam 19:21] He said, "So it is; your Lord has said, ‘This is easy for Me’; and in order that We make him a sign for mankind and a Mercy from Us; and this matter has been decreed."

[Maryam 19:22] So she conceived him, and she went away with him to a far place.

[Maryam 19:23] Then the pangs of childbirth brought her to the base of the palm-tree; she said, "Oh, if only had I died before this and had become forgotten, unremembered."

[Maryam 19:24] (The angel) Therefore called her from below her, "Do not grieve - your Lord has made a river flow below you."

[Maryam 19:25] "And shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards you - ripe fresh dates will fall upon you." (This was a miracle - the date palm was dry and it was winter season.)

[Maryam 19:26] "Therefore eat and drink and appease your eyes; so if you meet any person then say, ‘I have pledged a fast (of silence) to the Most Gracious - I will therefore not speak to any person today.’ "

[Maryam 19:27] So carrying him in her arms, she brought him to her people; they said, "O Maryam, you have indeed committed a great evil!"

[Maryam 19:28] "O sister of Haroon, neither was your father an evil man nor was your mother of poor conduct!"

[Maryam 19:29] Thereupon she pointed towards the child; they said, "How can we speak to an infant who is in the cradle?"

[Maryam 19:30] The child proclaimed, "I am Allah’s bondman; He has given me the Book and made me a Herald of the Hidden (a Prophet)."

[Maryam 19:31] "And He has made me blessed wherever I be; and ordained upon me prayer and charity, as long as I live."

[Maryam 19:32] "And has made me good to my mother and not made me forceful, ill-fated."

[Maryam 19:33] "And peace is upon me the day I was born, and on the day I shall taste death, and on the day I will be raised alive."

[Maryam 19:34] This is Eisa (Arabic name for Jesus), the son of Maryam; a true statement, in which they doubt.

[Maryam 19:35] It does not befit Allah to appoint someone as His son - Purity is to Him! When He ordains a matter, He just commands it, "Be" - and it thereupon happens.

[Maryam 19:36] And said Eisa, "Indeed Allah is my Lord and your Lord - therefore worship Him; this is the Straight Path."

[Maryam 19:37] Then groups among them differed; so ruin is for the disbelievers from the witnessing of a Great Day.

[Maryam 19:38] Much will they listen and much will they see, on the Day when they come to Us, but today the unjust are in open error.

[Maryam 19:39] And warn them of the Day of Regret when the matter will have been decided; and they are in neglect, and they do not accept faith.

[Maryam 19:40] Indeed We shall inherit the earth and all that is on it, and only towards Us will they return.
